Several Line Dancing groups meet regularly in Guernsey as well as other dancing styles such as
Morris Dancing and Irish Dancing.

There is an active racing calendar including Hill climbs on bank holidays at the Val des Terres,
Sprint racing at Vazon and sand racing at Vazon and Chouet in the summer months. Sit on the sea
wall at Vazon an enjoy the thrills and spills over a period of about three hours before the tide
covers the race track. Great events to watch.
You can also take part in your own races at the Guernsey Kart Centre, Victoria Avenue where fast
modern karts are available to hire.

Although a minority sport, it is taken seriously by those who have a warlike disposition. Great
fun and good for working off some aggression in a friendly way.

Rugby is taught in many schools and is popular across all age groups. There are just two clubs
on the island, St Jacques and Guernsey Rugby Union Football Club. Find out the history of the

Skimboarding

Skimboarding is a water sport that has similar characteristics to
surfing. A skimboarder stands some distance from the shore and as a wave approaches they run
toward the water, throw their board on the water less than an inch deep and glide out to the waves
to perform tricks depending on how capable a boarder they are.

Squash is played at a very high standard and two young island women have represented the island
and become World Champions. Courts are available for hire at Beau Sejour. King's Club also caters
for squash but membership is required.

Tennis is well catered for on the island with hard courts at Beau Sejour, St Martin's Tennis
Club, Kings Club, Longcamps (indoor courts) and La Mare de Carteret.

Walking is a favourite pastime in Guernsey. Some of the finest walks can be had along the
coastal cliff paths on the east and south coasts where you enjoy breathtaking views and 300 foot
high cliffs.
The Tourist Board have also published a booket with details of eleven Green Lane walks
throughout the island.

Windsurfing remains a popular sport for long boarder and short boarders, the most popular bays
being Vazon for high winds, Cobo, Grandes Rocques, Ladies Bay and Pembroke. Qualified instructors
are available at Cobo and Ladies Bay.

Surfing the Atlantic breakers at Vazon is also an year round sport enjoyed by people of all
ages. Wet suits are essential.

Not surprisingly, sailing is a hugely popular sport in Guernsey from large scale yachts to
dinghy sailing. Training is provided by the Guernsey Yacht Club at Castle Emplacement. The two
yacht clubs provide excellent club house facilities and organise races throughout the summer
months.
