Clubs and Associations - Guernsey
Scottish
Association
The Society as it was then, was set up over 60 years ago in
Guernsey and remains popular with Scots living in Guernsey today, who form 11%
of the population.
However it may surprise some that in fact the Association is
open to anyone - you do not need a Scot family background. There are in fact
Welsh, Irish, English and South African members. After the Second World War, it
became an Association and at that time was opened up to non-Scots. Most people
join the Association with a view to finding others with similar interests and
enjoy the Social activities that are organised.
Each year, the Association host three main events, Burns Night,
an early summer ball in April and St Andrew's Night in November. The last
Burns Night attracted 260 people. Scottish dancing features prominently in the
summer ball which is now held at Beau Sejour.
Membership costs just £5 per year. More information can be
obtained from Stuart Hardie on 723823 or visit their web site at www.guernsey.one-familyscotland.com
