9 hole Golf course planned

18 Sept 00 - A Sark businessman Colin Teers has won his 2 year fight to build a golf course. The Appeals Committee upheld his complaint against the planning authority. The course will be built in the next 12 months on the Fripponerie tenement. A 30 bed hotel will now also go ahead on the Beau Regard tenement owned by the de Carteret family.

Sunday sailings needed

27 Oct 00- Islanders are calling on the Chief Pleas to approve Sunday passenger boat sailings to the island next summer. The island has traditionally been closed to day-trippers on a Sunday, but the experiment in 2000 proved popular. Many feel that Sark tourism will suffer unless the rule can be relaxed.

Significant Law Changes

31 Dec 00- The new Millennium has heralded in some major reforms of Sark Law. The island agreed to the incorporation of human rights legislation which will be brought in over a period of time. More significantly, the ancient law of inheritance was amended by statute to enable females to inherit property instead of just the elder son and Sarkese can now will a tenement.
