| Incinerator for waste disposal 12 Oct 00- An incinerator may be the solution to the island's waste disposal problems, a packed public meeting heard this evening. John Russell detailed various alternatives to the present system of open air burning and tipping over the cliffs. This practice is increasingly becoming unacceptable to the majority of islanders. | Resident Vicar yet to be appointed 28 Oct 00- The Diocese of Winchester has confirmed that a resident vicar will not be appointed until a new vicarage is found or built by the island. The current vicarage has had over £74,000 spent on it in 1989 but remains costly to heat and maintain. It is thought to have been built in 1610 from donations from island families and there are doubts as to whether the States of Alderney own it. |
| Tanker sinks off Alderney 31 October 00- An Italian registered tanker containing 6,000 tonnes of chemicals has sunk in gale force conditions approx 11 miles off of Alderney. The tanker was en route from Southampton to Yugoslavia when she went down in heavy seas. It is thought that the nature of the chemicals which will solidify, will not cause an environmental disaster. | Alderney Milk back in shops soon 8 November 00- The Cheshire family Cox who moved to Alderney with their herd of 50 cattle during the summer will soon be offering locally produced milk once again, along with yoghurt, cheese, butter and ice-cream. | Colin Williams tops the poll 9 December 00- Retired industrialist Colin Williams topped the election poll at his first attempt on Saturday, knocking out senior politician John Russell. Ralph Burridge and Edwin Sebire retained their seats whilst Bill Walden and Chris Main were elected for the first time. The turnout was 65%. | British Channel Islands website launched 13 December 00- Alderney today launched a new website www.britishchannelislands.org to promote the islands in the e-commerce. With the backing of the other islands and the brainchild of Alderney's e-task force, they intend to promote this as the gateway to the Channel Islands e-commerce hub with one common corporate image. |
