The minibus used for transporting goods to Romania |
The Guernsey Romanian Aid Appeal is a Guernsey registered charity and a member of the Guernsey Charities Association. It has been operating since 1990 and our first trip to Romania taking much needed goods was on October 4th of that year. Since that date, 16 trips have been undertaken.
The charity has two focal points;
|
support for the baby hospital in Bacau, the special needs orphanage at Ungereni and the adult psychiatric hospital at Gisteni, through the provision of medical items, clothing and much more. |
|
the aid work through Holy Trinity Galati |
Work with the Baptist Church in Galati, led by Pastor Ovi Ghita, is of a similar nature to the basic humanitarian aid including the distribution of clothes, shoes etc through Holy Trinity and the missionary work around the smaller villages close to Galati on the far eastern side of Romania.
The charity is entirely self funded
through private donations and numerous fund raising events.
The main main event is the silent auction which is held at
the Guernsey Trades Fair every two years. This year's event
was a great success once again with £10,500 being raised.
The charity has NO administration costs as all the work is
done voluntarily by Stuart and Wendy Wilson with the help of
John and Marilyn Garnham and Sally Nicolle.
